Situational Awareness Resources

Situational awareness refers to the ability to identify, process, and comprehend the critical elements of information about what is happening with a mission. More simply, situational awareness means knowing what is going on concerning an incident. Obtaining situational awareness is one of the most critical tasks following an incident or catastrophic disaster. Information collection consists of the processes, procedures, and systems to communicate timely, accurate, and accessible information on the incident’s cause, size, and current situation to the public, responders, and additional stakeholders (both directly affected and indirectly affected).
